Camelot Cellars Winery was recently awarded a Gold Medal by the Beverage Tasting Institute for its 2008 New Zealand Gewurztraminer. This wine was awarded a 90 point (Exceptional) rating along with its Gold Medal. BTI had the following review of the New Zealand Gewurztraminer, "Golden straw color. Rich toasty coconut and warm peach-pineapple compote aromas with a silky, fruity medium body and a honeyed apple, lime curd tart, concord grape, and peppered dried mango finish. A fun, fruity, flavor ride." (The official review of this wine can be found at http://www.tastings.com/scout_wine.lasso?id=196939) The Beverage Testing Institute was founded in 1981 with the objective of producing fair and impartial wine reviews for consumers. Today, this philosophy still holds true. Over the years, our buying guides have appeared in the Wine Enthusiast, Restaurant Hospitality, The New Yorker Magazine, Wine & Spirits, International Wine Review, Epicurious.com, All About Beer, and many others. Currently we produce a popular free website, Tastings.com and publish a monthly e-newsletter called eTastings

Two Kinkead Ridge Wines Featured in 1000 Great Everyday Wines from the World's Best Wineries
9/14/2011
Two Kinkead Ridge wines are featured in the recently published "1000 Great Everyday Wines from the World’s Best Wineries" (DK Publishing, 337 pp.; $25). Former Wine Spectator editor Jim Gordon and his team of writers/tasters identify a range of good and affordable wines (which he equates with “the price of an entrée at a good restaurant”) from around the world with character that reflects their origin. France gets the most ink, followed by Italy, Spain, Germany, California and other wine-producing regions. “The rest of the U.S.,” which is everywhere but the West Coast, gets a mere two pages. Ohio merits a mention of Kinkead Ridge Winery for its Cabernet Franc and Viognier-Roussanne, long lauded by an enthusiastic fan base for their high quality. Interspersed among the recommended wines are charts on how to read labels, profiles of grape varieties, tips on doing a home tasting, and many other useful tidbits for the wine enthusiast.

BEAU GUILLIAMS, WINEMAKER FOR RAVEN’S GLENN WINERY OF WEST LAFAYETTE, OH RELEASED TODAY, THE WINERY’S RECEIPT OF FOUR GOLD MEDALS AND TWO BEST OF CLASS AWARDS AT THE INDIANAPOLIS “INDY” INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION.

BEAU EXPLAINED “OUR RAVEN ROUGE CONCORD BLEND AND OUR PETITE SIRAH ACTUALLY RECEIVED DOUBLE GOLD’S, WITH OUR 2010 PINOT GRIGIO AND THE 2010 VIDAL BLANC ICE WINE RECEIVING TRADITIONAL GOLDS. BEAU ADDED “THE BIG SURPRISE WAS RECEIVING OUR FIRST “BEST OF CLASS” WHICH WENT TO OUR WHITE RAVEN AND THE PETITE SIRAH.” GUILLIAMS CONCLUDED, “THE PETITE ENDED UP BEING PARTICULARLY SMOOTH AND A WELL BALANCED WINE AND PAIRS WELL WITH GRILLED MEATS AND HARDY CHEESES. WE JUST HAD TO BE PATIENT WITH THE RELEASE.”

JAYSON SLUSSER, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS AT RAVEN’S GLENN, EXPLAINED THAT MANY PEOPLE MISINTERPRET THE NAME PETITE SIRAH (also spelled Petite Syrah both in France and California) AS MEANING A SIRAH THAT IS SMALLER IN STATURE OR SOMETHING THAT IS “LESSER” THAN A TRADITIONAL SIRAH WINE. JAYSON WENT ON TO SAY “PETITE REFERS TO THE SMALL NATURE OF THE GRAPES OF THIS CULTIVAR AND HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH THE MAKEUP OF THE WINE WHICH IS ACTUALLY MORE BOLD WHEN COMPARED TO A TRADITIONAL SIRAH.”

THE INDY INTERNATIONAL IS CONDUCTED BY PURDUE UNIVERSITY AND ONE OF THE LARGEST WINE COMPETITIONS IN THE U.S. JUDGING OVER 2,600 WINES FROM 15 COUNTRIES AND 40 STATES.

RAVEN’S GLENN WINERY AND RESTAURANT IS LOCATED EAST OF WEST LAFAYETTE IN COSHOCTON COUNTY AND ONE OF THE FIVE LARGEST OF THE STATE’S 150 PLUS WINERIES. RAVEN’S GLENN MAINTAINS 60 EMPLOYEES BETWEEN THE WINERY, VINEYARD AND RESTAURANT OPERATIONS.
