Organic Wine – What Is It?

Biodynamic Wine – What Is It?
Biodynamic winemaking is an agricultural process that dates back almost a century ago. It was first founded by Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian philosopher who based the process around a complex astrological calendar
During the process, each day of farming must coincide with one of the four natural elements: fire, water, earth and air. The days of the week are then allocated into fruit days, leaf days, root days and flower days.
On fruit days, the grape is allowed to be harvested while root and leaf days are left for pruning and watering. Traditionally, flower days are the only days where the vineyard is left untouched.
What Are The Different Categories Of Organic Wine?
The categories of organic wine often vary depending on where in the world you live. However, in the United States, there are two different categories: wines that have been approved by the USDA and wines made with organic grapes.
When a wine has been approved by the USDA, it means that the formula follows a strict set of regulations, with the grapes usually being grown without the aid of synthetic fertilizers or chemicals.

Sulfites, otherwise known as sulfur dioxide or SO2 are additives that appear frequently throughout the food we consume.
The primary purpose of adding sulfites to food is to prevent spoiling, which helps to give the finished product a more substantial shelf life, especially when being shipped across great distances.
Among wine enthusiasts, there is a common misconception that you can buy sulfite-free wine. However, this is not actually true as sulfites are a natural occurrence that takes place during the fermentation process.
Although sulfites are completely natural, some producers do infuse the finished wine with synthetic sulfites to help it retain its taste and color.
